Wells is a display typeface for movies, video games, and other media of the science-fiction genre. It is inspired by the art genre of retrofuturism, which is futurism re-envisioned in the past, or historical aesthetics projected into the future. The design follows this core idea, and draws on contemporary rectangular and bulky typefaces or lettering usually associated with sci-fi and technology, as well as traditional broad-nib calligraphy.
The typeface is named after H. G. Wells, often considered as the “father of science fiction”, whose work also had a direct influence on the genre of retrofuturism.
The typeface is still a work in progress, currently containing one weight and its oblique, while being expanded to more.
