42 Days in Venice
Graphic Design, Bookbinding
A unbound poster book representing the six weeks I spent in the city of Venice, Italy in summer 2017. Each spread represent one day of my stay, visualized through the path of my movement recorded by Google Maps, as well as the typographic texture consisting of the names of the places visited. The typography also serves as a map itself, where the irregular rivers between words are to mimic the alleyways and waterways of Venice, and the varied letter spacing represent the time spent at each location. The blank pages are the days where I was out of the city, thus no information was recorded. All data are extracted from Google Maps, including the colors which are sampled from a satellite image of Venice.
The cover also features typography as a map that represents the city, which includes the names of the six districts of Venice. A composite image of all the paths in white is then placed over it to show the areas I have covered in the city.
